Infertility & Pregnancy Therapy

Infertility Support

Maybe another pregnancy announcement on social media is like a punch to the gut and you don’t know whether it’ll ever be your time, or you are overwhelmed with the decision to do IVF, adopt, or get an egg donor. There are so many societal pressures, fears, and unknowns with fertility, and it is often overwhelming to know whether to keep trying. 1 in 6 people will experience infertility at some point. Infertility counseling often includes work on one’s identity and confidence, radical acceptance of the situation at hand, and a safe and non-judgemental place to explore what your next steps are. I most often use client or person centered therapy with my clients during fertility stress because these seasons of life are so personal. I want the client to feel comfortable with the pace, and never be pressured to change or move forward too quickly if they are not ready. We will, however, practice coping skills and helpful ways of thinking about the issues at hand. My priority is emotional support for the client and to be their cheerleader, sounding board, and safe space to be authentic and vulnerable.

Pregnancy Anxiety Support

Maybe you are pregnant and your anxiety about losing the baby or how good of a parent you will be is adding to your already depleted lack of sleep, or maybe it was an accidental pregnancy and you don’t know how you will manage. Around 25% of pregnant women experience pregnancy anxiety of some kind. There are so many emotions and hormones at play, so many people offering differing opinions, and so many varying takes online, that it can be quite overwhelming. In counseling for pregnancy anxiety, we will work on managing thought patterns through client-centered therapy, look at strengths through solution focused therapy, and even do some exposures through exposure and response prevention to ensure that you are receiving thorough emotional support and coping skills throughout your pregnancy.
